What on earth were you thinking?

5:30am at the end of September is dark, but it was necessary to get in some early morning coffee and quiet before I embarked on a project borne of curiosity and frustration.

We are in the thick of campaign season, and I don't personally like it. It's heavy. It's ugly. It's confusing. Each day we are overwhelmed with messages from every side about platforms and policy, corruption and broken promises. The blame game is being played at every opportunity, and for many voters like myself, it's a complete turn off.

So how can regular folk reconcile the democratic right we have to vote with the political advertising nightmare we live through each day? I don't know. But I do wonder if getting to know our local candidates on a more personal and intimate level would help. Maybe if we can stand behind a person, and not just a platform, we can gain some trust and feel empowered that our choice can make a difference.

It is with that thought that I reached out to the 5 candidates in the North Okanagan / Shuswap riding, where I offered to spend a day documenting their life. This aims to be a raw and intimate look at who is vying to represent our community. Thoughtful questions and real conversations. Long days and intense moments. And lots of early morning (and all day long) coffee. Follow along and see what it's like On The Trail. And then VOTE. #onthetraildocumentary #2019election #kristalburgessphotography #Liberal #NDP #PPC #Conservative #Green
